Tierra Azul

We were tourists on a budget and so finding a decent place that is within our budget is our main concern. Tried to look online for resorts in Panglao Island and only Tierra Azul is the cheapest resort we saw. At first they offered us the standard room for 2 at 1,500php with breakfast, additional person is charged 300php. We planned to get 2 standard rooms for the 5 of us but then they gave it to a group who had deposited earlier and offered us the dormitory room for 8 at 2,000php per night with free breakfast.
We arrived in Tierra Azul around 6pm or 7pm after our whole day tour in Tagbilaran, Bohol. Here’s a quick review on the good and bad points about Tierra Azul which we experienced during our stay.
Good points
- Friendly staff
- Free breakfast, food is good.
- Room, bed sheets, pillows are clean.
- Free use of towel, soap, and tissue.
- It is true that they are 20 steps away from the beach.
- Situated in part of Panglao Island where there is night life.
Bad points
- Water interruption. We experienced this twice – (1) when we arrived, we had to take a shower but unfortunately no water would come out of it and so we had to ask for a bucket and dipper. (2) Morning on our last day, no single drop of water would come out of the faucet; we were not able to take a bath before heading to the airport.
- Problem with door lock, broken window, and no proper lights outside and within the vicinity.
- Narrow hallway on the 2nd floor.
- Aircon not in good condition.
- Room locks and surroundings do not look that safe.
I would advise you to stay in Tierra Azul if you are on a budget trip and you just need a decent room for sleeping and a place to put your stuffs. But if you are on a serious vacation and you want a relaxing beach experience better find another resort that is a bit expensive and with better accommodation.

Indeed a very helpful blog…besides from the hotel you guys stayed at, what other hotels around alona would you recommend on a tight budget??Did you ever come by the Dumaluan Beach Resort or the Lost Horizon?

Hi, Mhen
Thanks for your comment.
Only Tierra Azul offers the cheapest rate along Alona beach… We didn’t see Dumaluan Resort, I think it was on the other side… not walking distance from Tierra Azul’s spot. Haven’t heard of Lost Horizon.. sorry…

Ok thank you anyways…Is alona beach the main beach where most of the tourists go? How’s the night life? What affordable restaurants would you recommend to me? price per meal?

Yes this is the most popular beach. Hmmm… night life, few bars only not like Bora… as regards the food, usually they have the “paluto”, seafoods, meats, vegetables are displayed outside and you can just choose and have it cooked any way you want… this is a bit pricey, you just have to really look for the cheapest. But other meals cost 100php to 200php. You can check out my post http://www.tripkolang.com/2009/10/panglao-island/ Thanks!

Nice..Like in Bora they have that place called “D’Talipapa” where you can buy seafood at a very affordable price..I gotta question for you about your tour at Balicasag island. Where you charged an entrance fee?..The P200 you guys paid for was for the use of the pool at the Balicasag resort right? and that was good for 5 persons? or was it P200/person?..
One more thing I found this website in which they showed pictures of the rooms and facilities of Tierra Azul http://tierraazulbeachhouse.blogspot.com/
Thanks..!!

Yes the 200php was for use of their pool. Hmmm… I can’t really remember but if ever there is, I think it was just a small fee of 20php or less and included already in the boat rent.
Saw the website, our room was the green room with many beds…

Hi Webby!
Kamusta po yung beach front sa Tierra Azul? how does it compare to, let’s say, sa Dumaluan Beach resort?
Thanks

hi, I haven’t been to Dumaluan, but I think their side is better than in Alona Beach… in terms of water and view.
Thanks!
