Here’s a quick trip on the different churches we visited during our stay in Iloilo. I included these churches in our itinerary that by the way didn’t really work out… haha! I’ll have another blog for our actual itinerary…in the meantime it’s time to do some Church hopping…
Day 1 – 1st stop – Molo Church
Molo Church or St. Anne Parish is the closest one in the city area; I think travel time is less than 20 minutes and just one jeepney ride from city proper with Molo sign or bound to Molo.
This is the only church we visited in Day 1 because we really got tired from the Dinagyang Festival earlier that day.
Day 2 – 2nd stop – Miag-ao Church
We started our day the earliest possible, woke up around 6am; had breakfast at 6.30am and started our journey at 7am. We also cut our itinerary and didn’t travel to San Joaquin Church, the farthest of them all and just headed to Miagao Church – but still a far, far away church from the city… Hehe!
We looked for the “Super” Terminal Market; quite a manageable walk from Robinsons Place. We rode the Jeepney going to Miagao or you can also ride the jeepney going to San Joaquin; whichever is available. Jeepney fare was 50php per person and travel time was almost 1 hour.
It was a bit of a long ride but the scenic view along the way was worthwhile….
and of course once we reached Miag-ao and saw this very beautiful church really felt GREAT! The sun and the wind was just right; it made the place more calm and relaxing…
It was definitely a magnificent view as well as the pictures we have taken!
Day 2 – 3rd stop – Guimbal Church
Right after Miag-ao Church, we headed to Guimbal Church and on our way back to Iloilo City Proper… but going South, you’ll pass by Guimbal first before Miag-ao….
we just wanted to go first to the farthest church so it would be easier to travel back to the city…
Giumbal Church is part of Guimbal plaza, it was a beautiful and well taken care of plaza; I guess they have a very productive Mayor/Governor and really makes Guimbal a great community – organized, appealing and very clean.
Here’s a picture of Guimbal Church, very simple but still lovely… also it was nice to sit and relax in Guimbal Plaza, the atmosphere here is really relaxing for us…
Jeepney ride from Miag-ao Church to Guimbal Church costs 15php per person. Then we rode again a jeepney going back to Iloilo City proper; got to ride 2 jeepneys (20php + 30php); but it should have been just one jeepney ride! Hmmp!
As we headed back to city proper we went to Jaro area to have our lunch in Pat-pat’s Kansi just near Jaro Cathedral… for our 4th and last stop..
We got back again to the “Super Terminal” and walked going to the main street where Jaro jeepneys pass by…
Day 2 – 4th stop – Jaro Cathedral
I had Jaro Cathedral in black and white because the sun was not that good and just had overcast pictures… but what’s interesting about Jaro Cathedral is the Jaro Bell Tower just across it…which has better sunlight and looked more appealing in pictures…
After our last church we now headed to Old Biscocho Haus located on the other side of the church but you would have to walk around the plaza which turned to a “perya” at that time… Haha!
Overall, we enjoyed our church hopping and sight-seeing it was a great experience to visit these remarkable churches in Iloilo and to keep beautiful photos as well….
And visiting Iloilo is really recommended if you are looking for historic and beautiful Philippine churches… Super sulit! Till our next church hopping… see you!
